AU-65H
MII Studio VTR
The EnHanced Series is the result of an evolutionary refinement in MII products picture quality and cost
performance.
Whenever the application, recording, playback, or editing, the AU-65H EnHanced Series Studio VTR
offers the superb picture and sound quality that are the hallmarks of MII. The editing operations are
supported by component dubbing, with minimum degradation, 32 x high-speed search, and the new
picture-in-picture and freeze-still functions.
Excellent Picture Quality
The MII analog component and advanced CTCM system with amorphous video heads used in the AU-
65H helps assure superb playback quality from metal-particle cassettes recorded in the MII format.
90 Minutes Recording and Playback
The standard-sized 1/2 metal tape cassettes permit more than 90 minutes of recording /playback. A small
20-minute cassette can also be used without an adaptor. Footage can be edited and broadcast directly from
ENG tapes without dubbing.
Picture-in-Picture Function Makes Editing Easier
The MII AU-65H Studio VTR is equipped with a picture-in-picture function. Images from the playback
VTR and recording VTR can be displayed simultaneously on a single monitor connected to the recording
VTR. The primary image and window image can also be interchanged. The number of monitors needed is
reduced, and constant monitoring of Y/C, component (Y/PB/PR), and composite input signals is enabled.
In the double-display mode, pictures from the playback and recording VTRs can be displayed while the
image at the Player-in point is frozen in the window, greatly simplifying editing.
4-channel Audio
Two FM audio tracks (CH3/4) and two longitudinal tracks (CH1/2) enable audio recording and playback
on 4 separate channels. Four VU meters on the front panel facilitate audio level monitoring and precise
adjustment of the individual channels.
Internal time Code Generator/Reader (VITC/LTC/UB)
The AU-65H features an internal SMPTE time code generator/reader and a dedicated time code track. It
records VITC and LTC separately, and automatically switches between them during playback in
accordance with tape speed. User bits can be recorded in each code and one set of user bits can contain an
internally generated time-of-day clock.
Built-in 3D Digital Field TBC
The AU-65H is equipped with an EnHanced performance Time-Base Corrector (TBC) boasting a
correction range of one field (262.5H) compared with 32 H for conventional TBCs. The VTR continuously
retains information for one field in memory. This data is used for 3-dimensional processing, thereby
providing excellent dropout compensation. Coupled with component-signal processing, the AU-65H
provides reliable, stable high-quality pictures.
Digital Freeze Still
When the VTR is switched to STOP mode, the video field immediately prior to the mode change is stored
in digital memory for output. Thus, the AU-65H is able to offer noiseless still pictures without an auto-
tracking function. Editing and broadcasting operations are more flexible, and monitoring the picture
during editing is easier (especially in combination with picture-in-picture).
Wide Variety of Editing Functions
Connected directly to a player, the AU-65H enables 1-event assemble editing plus a full range of insert
editing operations, for VIDEO/FM (CH3/CH4). AUDIO (CH1/CH2), and TIME CODE. Convenient
functions like Preview, Review, Go To, Trim, and Auto Tag provide maximum versatility for studio
editing tasks.
Audio Split Editing
The audio split editing function of the AU-65H lets you set the edit-in and edit-out points for audio
separately from those for video. The minimum duration for an audio edit is 1 frame.
Variable Memory Editing (VME)
Using the AU-65H as a recorder and an MII VTR equipped with the AT (Auto-Tracking) function (such
as the AU-63H) as a player, the playback contents of the players variable (AT) mode can be memorized at
the recorder for playback and editing within the range extending from normal speed in reverse (-1x) to
twice normal speed forward (+2x). This advanced function increased versatility. For example, it enables
slow-motion editing, making the AU-65H particularly useful for sports programs.
Color Framing
The AU-65H provides the capability for controlling color framing in a 4-field sequence enabling
prevention of the H-shift that occurs at editing points. This helps assure optimum picture quality in
editing, and makes the AU-65H especially effective for production work, such as animation.
Dobly* C Noise Reduction
Dolby* C noise reduction circuitry provides superior audio signal-to-noise performance on the
longitudinal tracks (CH1/CH2).
RS-422A Serial Interface
The AU-65H is equipped with a 9-pin serial remote interface. Fully compatible with existing broadcast
serial control equipment, this RS-422A serial interface enables machine-to-machine synchronization.
16:9 Wide Vision Compatibility
The AU-65H is compatible with the NTSC 525 16:9 Wide Vision System. Equipped with S1-Video (4-
pin) input and output, it permits automatic detection and addition of the Wide Vision ID signal. With its
advanced design, the AU-65H is fully equipped for the next generation in TV.
Y/C (S1-Video) In/Out Connector
The S1-Video (4-pin) connector allows recording and playback of the NTSC 525 16:9 Wide Vision signal.
In normal mode (4:3), the connector serves as a conventional S-Video input/output terminal, allowing
connection of various equipment for high-quality editing and dubbing.
High-Speed Search/Jog
The AU-65H provides high-speed picture search, up to 32 times normal speed, in both forward and
reverse (±32x). The jog modes quick response permits accurate, convenient location of editing points.
EnHanced Superimpose
The time code alphanumerics, the operation mode and tape speed can be superimposed on the screen.
On-Screen Set-Up Menu
The Search dial controls an on-screen menu for display of each item during initial set-up. This helps
ensure quick and easy operation with minimal errors.
Digital Hour Meter
The AU-65H self-stores its accumulated running time and lets you display it on the monitor when desired,
for easy tracking of maintenance cycles.
Additional Features
